Our Old Continent is going through one of those moments when History, in suspense, could transfigure it if it decided to equip itself with a military defense allowing it, in the event of a conflict on its borders, not to have to wait for the goodwill of the United States to move a finger. He would finally enter adulthood.
The United States has already come to the rescue of its European allies twice: in 1917, a year before the end of the First World War; in 1941, two years after the start of the Second. Will they intervene next time? Nothing says it: with their growing isolationism, we are no longer too sure of being able to count on them.
It is a pity to note that our continent, both frivolous and clumsy, taking so long to set up…
