Charlize Theron and Kiki Layne are back for the sequel to The Old Guard. The team of immortal warriors is joined by a new actress, none other than Uma Thurman, the heroine of Kill Bill.
A great new recruit
American actress Uma Thurman joins the cast of The Old Guard 2. Mainly known for her participation in Quentin Tarantino’s films: pulp Fiction (1994) and the two opuses of Kill Bill (2003-2004), she was also seen in the Poison Ivy costume in the film batman and robin (1997) or in Percy Jackson (2010). His role in Kill Bill has earned him several nominations and awards, from the BAFTA Awards to the Golden Globes. She made rarer appearances in the cinema from the 2010s, turning to Broadway and the theater. We then find her in 2018, on the bill of The House that Jack built, screened at the Cannes Film Festival out of competition. The actress is now returning to action films by participating in The Old Guard 2, for a role that has yet to be revealed.
The Old Guard
The Old Guard is an adaptation of the book by Greg Rucka, who also wrote the screenplay for the films. The story follows the team of immortal warriors led by Andromache of Scythia/Andy (Charlize Theron). Keeping their identities secret, they have participated in many conflicts and are not at the end of their adventures. After the success of The Old Guard on Netflix, the production of a sequel is launched. In addition to Charlize Theron (Mad Max), Kiki Layne (Native Son) the rest of the cast from the first film returns as Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange), Matthias Schoenaerts (Red Sparrow), Marwan Kenzari (Aladdin), Luca Marinelli (Martin Eden) and Veronica Ngo (Fury). On the side of the new faces, Henry Golding (Snake Eyes) joins the cast alongside Uma Thurman.
Filming for The Old Guard 2 officially began Monday, June 13, announced with a tweet from director Victoria Mahoney (Lovecraft Country) showing a photo from the studios. Netflix has yet to announce a release window for the film.
