Thunderbolt in Buckingham! Prince Andrew, son of Queen Elizabeth II of England targeted by a sexual assault complaint in the United States, has renounced his royal duties, according to information from the royal family.
“With the Queen’s approval and consent, the Duke of York’s military engagements and royal patronage have been returned to the Queen,” Buckingham said in a statement.
“The Duke of York will continue to play no public role and is defending himself as a private citizen in this matter.”
Towards a trial in 2022?
Prince Andrew’s lawyers did not obtain on Wednesday the dismissal in the United States of a complaint filed by Virginia Giuffre, a 38-year-old woman who accuses him of having sexually assaulted her when she was a teenager.
This decision could lead to the holding of a civil trial in the course of 2022. Such an event would strongly tarnish the image of the British royal family.
