Game News Starfield: the duration of the campaign revealed, longer than Skyrim or Fallout 4?

In the wake of his presentation of Starfield during the Summer Game Fest 2022, Todd Howard spoke with the media IGN. In an interview published yesterday, he reveals many details about the title and in particular about its lifespan.

Starfield: what is the lifespan?

Following from an interview with IGN, the producer of Starfield Todd Howard has delivered a lot of additional information regarding the title. One of them concerns the length of the main story, which would be longer than that of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim or Fallout 4. Todd Howard even mentioned figures to clarify his remarks:

In the end, this one will be a little longer than our previous games (…) There are more quests, so it could last 20% longer than the previous ones.

When it comes to Fallout 4 and Skyrim, both have campaign lengths of 27 and 32 hours respectively (according to the site HowLongToBeat). Figures actually lower than those mentioned by Todd Howard who mentions a campaign which could last between 30 and 40 hours.

“A dream given the amount of things they could do”

Of course, the content offered by Starfield will not be limited to the story mode. During the presentation of the fifteen minutes of gameplay (available above) of the game during the Xbox Bethesda conference, Todd Howard then indicated that more than 1,000 planets were explorable that will offer procedurally generated content. A process already used by Bethesda in their previous games.

In addition to the side quests present in Starfield, there are many ways to increase the life of a title such as DLCs or player-created mods. Todd Howard also takes them into account and seems convinced that Starfield will lend itself well to it:

We learned that gamers continued to play our video games for a very long time. They continue to play Skyrim. Not for ten years straight, but they stop, come back to it, and there’s additional content. We will definitely be making additional content for the game, and we love our modding community. We think Starfield, for our modding community, is going to be a dream considering the amount of stuff they could do.

In any event, Bethesda seems to have aimed for the moon in terms of content for Starfield. However, we will have to wait for the release of the game, planned for 2023 on PC and Xbox to have your head in the stars… or your feet on the ground.
