Game News Starfield: an extraordinary main city, new proof of Bethesda’s ambition

Starfield is probably the most anticipated video game from Xbox. An expectation that seems to have been heard by Bethesda, which once again promises an out-of-category game with New Atlantis. One of the game’s main cities will be unheard of in the studio’s history.

Starfield: four main cities, including one outsized

Lifetime, space combat, cinematics… Todd Howard, the producer, poured out on Starfield during a interview conducted by IGN. He states that the game’s single-player campaign could last between 30 and 40 hours, which is longer than the studio’s previous games. A single-player campaign that will take the player through different planets and whose crossroads would be at New Atlantisone of four major explorable cities in Starfield:

The city offers all the services you expect, and you can modify your ship thanks to the different factions (…) But New Atlantis is above all the headquarters of the Constellation, the last group of space explorers, to which the player belongs. A kind of mix between NASA, Indiana Jones and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Besides its status as crossroads for explorers and adventurers, New Atlantis also symbolizes Bethesda’s ambition with Starfield to make a record game: Todd Howard indicates that New Atlantis is the biggest city in the game, but also never realized by the studio.

Starfield: an XXL title?

An ambition also embodied by other aspects of the game. During the broadcast of the fifteen minutes of Starfield gameplay during the Xbox Bethesda conference being held this Sunday, producer Todd Howard then indicated that over 1,000 planets to explore. A bold project made possible by procedural generation. On this subject, some players would have noticed that the Earth, Mars and even NASA projects would be identifiable in game.

Finally, the last witness (already mentioned at the beginning of the article) of Bethesda’s desire to make Starfield an XXL game: the lifespan. The single player campaign of the title would be included in 30 and 40 hours according to Todd Howard. A number already sufficient to fine its predecessors Fallout 4 and Skyrim. In addition to the single-player campaign, the game therefore promises a thousand explorable planets, additional content to come as well as the possibility of extending its playing time even more with mods.

Starfield is expected on PC and Xbox in 2023. It will be available at launch in the Xbox Game Pass.
