news culture Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+: Would the Jedi Master have a brother?

Among the discoveries revealed to us by the third episode of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, broadcast this Wednesday on Disney+, we learned more about the origins of the Jedi master. Revelations that fans did not necessarily expect.

Obi-Wan has a family?

With all the comparisons that fans make between Obi-Wan and Jesus, we had almost forgotten that the latter had a family, like everyone else. Joking aside, the series reveals a little more about the origins of our Jedi. Force-sensitive children are taken to the Jedi Temple at an early age for training. It is therefore common for them to remember very little, if at all, of their family. Obi-Wan is a native of the planet Stewjon and episode 3 tells us that he retains vague memories of italthough he joined the Jedi at an early age. He mentions in particular having a little brother” during a discussion with the young princess Leia Organa.

Stories from the Legends universe canonized

If this is the first time that the Star Wars universe has officially addressed the subject of the origins of the Jedi master, the abandoned universe, Legends, had already taken an interest in the question. Obi-Wan also came from the planet Stewjon, from a moderately wealthy family, but it was unclear if he had any siblings. He thought he had memories of a brother named Owen, which were later revealed to be visions of the future. A much more complex story than that served by the universe defined as canon.

The “Legends” universe has been swept away by Disney’s takeover of the Star Wars franchise. However, the firm draws more and more in the ideas proposed by novels, comics and disavowed video games to reintegrate them into its official universe. For example, we saw the character of Grand Admiral Thrawn being re-canonized in the Star Wars Rebels series. The postlogy also borrowed ideas from the Legends universe by rearranging them. This is how the son of Leia and Han Solo dark to the dark side.
