From Gotham to Mexico, there is only one step for the famous dark knight who will have the right to a new film. It is called Batman Azteca and will have the particularity of being made in Mexico, with dialogues in Spanish, which will then be redubbed in English. The production highlights the Aztec culture, a pre-Columbian (or pre-Hispanic) people that almost disappeared due to disease and colonization. We follow a young boy, Yohualli Coatl, whose father, chief of his village, is assassinated by Spanish conquistadors. He then leaves to warn the other villages of the impending threat and train to fight it. He goes to the precincts of the temple dedicated to Tzinacan, the bat god, and develops techniques to take revenge and repel the enemy.
A cultural film
Batman Azteca was designed for pay homage to Native American culture and especially the Aztec people. This is felt even in the film crew, because it is directed by Juan Meza Leon, a Mexican director who previously worked with DC. He engaged Alejandro Diaz Barriga, an expert in Mesoamerican cultures and the ethnic history of Mexico, to make the adventure believable and perfectly transcribe the Aztec culture. On the production side, we will discover the work of Warner Bros. Animation allied to Particular Crowd Anima, one of the largest animation film production companies in Mexico. This is not the first time that Bruce Wayne travels, we had already found him in Japan with Batman Ninja released in 2018.
For the moment, we know little about the broadcast of this animated film, but the first visuals are starting to leak. It will be available exclusively on HBO Max. The platform is not yet available in France, but it should arrive by 2023. In the meantime, it is likely that the OCS service will obtain exclusivity.
