news culture Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi: Inquisitor Reva is not the villain we imagined

Episode 5 of Obi-Wan Kenobi has greatly pleased Star Wars fans in several ways. The Jedi Master is more like the one we know. Darth Vader bursts the screen as in each of his appearances, but the originality of the episode comes from the revelations made on the character of the Third Sister.

Reva, survivor of Order 66

The trail of clues to his origins was there all along, so this is more of a confirmation than a surprise. Reva reveals to Obi-Wan that she was present at the Jedi Temple when Anakin, now Darth Vader, came to execute Order 66 and slaughter his former brothers in arms, including the children. So she is good the little novice that we can see in the prologue of the first episode.

The unexpected revelation, however, is its purpose. We learn that she is not interested in the Empire and does not care about the concerns of the Inquisitors. Becoming Grand Inquisitor had only one purpose: to serve her agenda and allow her to take revenge on the one who took everything from him by betraying the Jedi, but also on Obi-Wan, because he was not there to prevent the annihilation of the Jedi Order. At the same time, we understand that his obsession with tracking down Obi-Wan was actually personal.

A revival among the wicked

Don’t worry, we’re not here to make Reva nice or to condone her crimes. It should be noted that it does not follow the classic pattern of the villains of the Star Wars universe. She’s not the power-obsessed servant of the dark side, as we are used to seeing. Since the beginning of the series, Reva has been constantly ostracized from the rest of the Inquisitors. We were however right to think that she had been forcibly converted to the dark side to serve the Empire, like many of them. However, she seems to have never lost sight of her goal and that it was her desire for revenge that motivated her downfall. Revenge is not an unusual motive for a dark side user, but the case of Reva stands out despite everything by the violence of its history.

The episode leaves Reva seriously injured after her failed attempt to kill Vader. That said, we don’t worry too much about her, hate and the dark side are the best cure for most ills in this galaxy far, far away. She is seen discovering Bail Organa’s recorded message, revealing to him that another child is hidden on Tatooine. It is likely that she will succeed in put together the puzzle pieces about Luke and Leiawhich could give him a new way to get revenge on Obi-Wan and Vader… Answer on Wednesday, June 22 for the final episode of the miniseries. According to the latest rumors, it should last 1 hour and 30 minutes.
