Game news Season A letter to the future: a release window for the most exotic adventure of the year

Last night’s State of Play was an opportunity to deliver big, long-awaited announcements to players. But between Final Fantasy XVI and Street Fighter 6, there are still some more modest experiences that have managed to find a small place. This is particularly the case for Season: A letter to the future, which was announced at the Game Awards 2020. The title from the creators of Darwin Project thus gave us some gameplay and a release window.

A long silence for Season: A letter to the future

It’s been a while since we’ve heard of Season: A letter to the future. And yet, the new kid on Scavengers Studio was able to get noticed when it was announced at the Game Awards 2020. Poetic and exotic, it had this little tone of freshness that feels good and many players were already looking forward to leaving for a road trip by bike. But then it was hard to know what to really expect. Except for its very well polished artistic direction, the title did not show us much. Moreover, it cannot be said that Scavengers Studio is known for developing adventures of this genre.

Amélie Lamarche and Simon Darveau’s studio has so far only produced one title: Darwin Project. This Battle Royale at the Hunger Games had intrigued players when it was announced. But once the game started, the excitement faded quickly. So much so that, only four months after its release, Savengers Studio announced that it was ending the project for lack of players. But the teams obviously did not give up and even decided to embark on a whole new field with the promising Season: A letter to the future. The difference between the two projects is such that it was difficult to plan. And the sequel did not help matters. If we have heard little about the title since, Scavengers Studio has made the headlines of the press, and not for the right reasons. The toxicity of certain high-ranking members of the studio had been singled out. This resulted in a restructuring of the studio which certainly did not help the development process. But do not panic ! Things are visibly better at Scavengers Studio and Season: A letter to the future has progressed well. So much so that he showed himself during this State of Play with, as a bonus, an exit window.

In two years, the pitch has not changed. You will always embody a young woman embarked on a rather special bicycle road trip. Its goal ? Capture the last moments of declining cultures. We were thus able to see through these new gameplay extracts what it will give in game, from taking a photo to filling in your souvenir book, without forgetting of course the bike rides. As the title suggests, it is a quest for posterity that Season: A letter to the future offers us, surely tinged with emotion and poetry. Through different places, each more different than the next, you will discover the stories and traditions of these very distinct cultures in an adventure that promises to be as exotic as possible. And all this under the mild sun of autumn evenings.

It is indeed in autumn 2022 that this adventure will begin. If Season: A letter to the future will be available on PS4 and PS5, hence its presence during this State of Play, remember that a PC version is also on the way… or should I say by bike.
