Game News Redfall: a precious detail on the co-op mode of the exclusive Xbox, by the authors of Deathloop

After laying the excellent Dishonored and Deathloop, Arkane will soon offer a completely different type of game, namely Redfall, a very naughty FPS that relies heavily on cooperation. Here is just one piece of information that should not be overlooked.

Co-op, yes, but be careful

After releasing the very inventive Deathloop in 2021, Arkane is already actively working on a completely different project called Redall, a bloody FPS that relies heavily on action. We were able to see it in particular at the opening of the Xbox + Bethesda Showcase last Sunday, as part of the Summer Game Fest, with a generous sequence of gameplay: it embodies vampire hunters responsible for recovering their small town, taken by storm by the bloodsuckers.

Redfall will therefore be a pure co-op game: we can play it alone, of course, but the emphasis is placed heavily on PVE multiplayer, with the possibility of being at maximum two, which was also exhibited in the video that you can find above. Harvey Smith, game designer, precisely returned to the very functioning of this mechanism during an interview with IGN and it seems good to know… that the progress of the campaign will only be counted for the host of the game.

Two is still better?

So take it for granted: if you play the game with another person, but you are not the “main” player, your progress will not be saved and you will therefore have to redo the adventure on your side. On the other hand, Arkane reassures and specifies that experience levels, weapons, and other skills will be saved whether you’re hosting the game or not.

The developers advise in any case to play in cooperation, the latter proving to be a fundamental pillar to fully live the experience of the French designers. In our interview to be found here, we were told in particular:

On a cooperative level, traveling together has an immediate narrative effect, as the characters begin to talk. The more they live together, the more they know each other. The dialogues change. Pulling together, fighting together makes things more powerful, that’s for sure. Jacob has a crow that can fly around and search for targets, which everyone else in the party knows for example. Rami has a power that can create a halo, and everyone in that halo will be healed. The powers overlap each other. Added to this is the narrative system and the game in general. You can also revive other players.

Redfall will be released on PC and Xbox Series in 2023.
