Game news Jurassic World 3: The actors of the film discuss their relationship with video games
Although we met the Jurassic World: The World After team to talk about the film, we were able to ask the actors and the director a few questions about their relationship with the world of video games. Who doesn’t know what a PlayStation 4 is? Who has played all the Jurassic Park games, including the famous Trespasser? Who has ever lent their voice to a character for a game? The answers below.
Interview conditions
This article is a transcription of several interviews that took place on Friday, May 27, 2022. We were able to chat with the Jurassic World Dominion team by videoconference. Other articles addressing other themes, discussed with the film crew, will arrive soon.
What is a PS4?
When we have the opportunity to meet Hollywood stars, we always ask them if they play video games. The Jurassic World Dominion cast tries their hand at it.
HelloSolar.info: Jeff Goldblum, you said in 2019 that you had never played a video game in your life, even the ones you participated in. But since then there has been a lockdown. Did you take the opportunity to get started?
Mamoudou Athie : (to Jeff Goldblum) I’m about to give you a PS4. The PS5 is impossible to find.
Jeff Goldblum : I want to hear about it. I don’t know what a PS4 is, I don’t know what a PS5 is. You know, I did an episode about this in The World According to Jeff Goldblum and admitted to the audience that I may have played a few levels of Miss Pac-Man or Pong. But since then I’ve never played a video game and I know that I did voices in Jurassic World Revolution. No, Evolution.
Mamoudou Athie : (to Jeff Goldblum) Do your kids play video games?
Jeff Goldblum : No, we tried to get our kids away from screens to talk to people and be in nature, because I’ve seen kids get lost in the stuff. It’s sad. I was chatting with Colin Trevorrow who is a wonderful father…
Mamoudou Athie : He’s a genius.
Jeff Goldblum : He’s a genius and he said “oh no, there are video games that are good, I limit their playing time but there are very good ones, I like some of them”.
Mamoudou Athie : Colin is a gamer!
Jeff Goldblum : Totally! Yes, so you know all that. (To Mamoudou Athie) Now tell me, do you like video games?
Mamoudou Athie : I’ll make you play some, I have some to advise you.
Jeff Goldblum : OK !
Mamoudou Athie : But on PS4, I don’t have a PS5.
HelloSolar.info: Jurassic Park is a franchise that we could find in many video games. Have you played video games adapted from the license?
Colin Trevorrow : I played the original Nintendo game and I played Trespasser. Trespasser is great! And then of course our games. You know, we have Evolution and Evolution 2 that just came out, they’re really complex and beautiful games. Everyone at Frontier has done an amazing job, it’s great to have that level of accomplishment on what it’s like to handle dinosaurs.
Isabella Sermon : I haven’t played Jurassic Park games, but I’m not very good with video games. If I was, I would definitely play one of the Jurassic Park games.
The voice of reason
HelloSolar.info: Bryce Dallas Howard, you voiced the character of Claire in the video game Jurassic World Evolution 2. Is it different from playing a character in the movies?
Bryce Dallas Howard : The team that made these games, I’ve loved getting to know them over the years and we have so much fun making these recordings. We often do several sessions. Usually with video games what’s interesting is that I’m playing a version of the old Claire, there’s the park Claire and the “fixed” Claire, and a lot of times in games I’m records voices that switch from one personality to another. I would say that’s probably the only difference with games. (to Dewanda) You didn’t play any of the games?
Dewanda Wise : I’m still stuck on Legos!
Bryce Dallas Howard : Wait till you get to video games!
HelloSolar.info: Dewanda Wise, would you like your character to be the heroine of a video game?
Dewanda Wise : That would be really cool. I mean, a lot of what she is is just a ton of adventure. In my imagination, she lives on this plane, she’s been a lot of places, she can go anywhere whenever she wants. It’s common for a video game!
Dino Crisis?
HelloSolar.info: There is a scene at the end of the film where a gigantic dinosaur breaks the window of a control room and threatens to devour everyone by sticking its mouth inside. This scene is reminiscent of a video game called Dino Crisis. Was Capcom’s game a source of inspiration?
Colin Trevorrow : Oh yes, I read that somewhere too. I know about Dino Crisis but I don’t remember that time. For me it was inspired by the high hideout in the Lost World, remember, they went up really high and the dinosaur wasn’t able to reach them and so we thought BioSyn would have those sort of high huts who could go up and down for their research. We designed this and we thought this thing was bigger than they imagined and it might be able to put its head in there.
