It has now been three years since the cult series Game of Thrones ended with its last episode. With House of the Dragon, the prequel series, only a few weeks away from airing and the Jon Snow sequel just announced, HelloSolar.info’s editorial staff provides an update on all the spin-offs planned on the Game of Thrones universe.
House of the Dragon
House of Dragons is a Game of Thrones prequel series that takes place 200 years before the events we know well. Adapted from the novel “Fire and Blood” by George RR Martin, the plot centers around the Targaryen dynasty. The dragon family, then at its peak, will split into two branches vying for the iron throne. The casting counts in particular Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Daemon Targaryen, and Emma D’Arcy (Truth Seekers) in that of Rhaenyra Targaryen. A season 2, currently in development, has even been announced. The first episode is coming on the night of August 22, 2022 in Francebroadcast simultaneously with the United States on HOB/OCS.
The sequel to Jon Snow
It was recently announced that HBO was also in the process of developing a sequel series. from Game of Thrones, centered on the character of Jon Snow. At the end of the cult series, the latter had just been exiled north of the wall with the Sauvageons, after having killed Daenerys. The series is still in the development stage, very little information has been released about the series.
10,000 Ships
The 10,000 Ships spin-off is a little more advanced than other Game of Thrones projects. In effect, the series has already found its screenwriter in the person of Amanda Segel (Person of Interest). This time, the plot makes a 1,000 year leap into the past to focus on the trip the warrior princess Nymeria. She leaves Essos with 10,000 ships to travel to Dorne, where she will build the mighty kingdom we saw in Game of Thrones.
9 trips
A prequel series to House of the Dragon is reportedly in development as “9 Journeys”. Bruno Heller, creator of The Mentalist, is currently working on this project with the father of Game of Thrones, George RR Martin. The story should follow Lord Corlys Velaryon, which we will soon discover in the guise of Steve Toussaint in House of the Dragon. Nicknamed the Serpent of the Seas, he undertook nine voyages between Westeros and Essos in his youth, which made him famous.
Tales of Dunk and Egg
HBO is also developing a series adapting the collection of short stories “Tales of Dunk and Egg”. Set 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the news follows the adventures of a knight-errant named Duncanor Dunk, and his companion named “Egg” because of his baldness.
HBO is also reportedly developing three spin-off animated series., in the same vein as The Witcher: The Nightmare of the Wolf, on Netflix. The prequel imagined before House of the Dragon, which was to tell the events of the long night, was finally canceled after shooting the pilot. Another project by the name of Flea Bottom, which was to focus on the shallows of King’s Landing, was also reportedly cancelled. Morality, an announced project does not necessarily arrive on our screens. It is therefore possible that some of these series will never see the light of day.. The green light for these spin-offs probably relies in part on the success of House of the Dragon. Business to follow…
