Game News Dragon’s Dogma: the first episode is making a sensational return to Steam!

Released in 2012, Dragon’s Dogman was a real hit for Capcom. With more than a million units sold in one month, especially in Japan, the shooter had established itself as a benchmark for Action-RPGs, with good ratings that did not, however, break the ceiling. Also, the public quickly expected to see a sequel land.

And for having waited, they have waited. In 2013 came Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, an expansion that also included the base game. But since then, nothing. The title has been ported to other media including the Switch in 2019modded in every way, but Capcom only seemed not decided to offer a second episode.

Dragon’s Dogma 2, the sequel that we no longer expected

However, for a few weeks, it was rumored that Dragon’s Dogma 2 could become a reality. Tonight, it’s been a week since Capcom held its presentation, during which we saw more about Exoprimal, the Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak expansion, the Resident Evil 4 remake and the sequel to the program for Resident Evil Village . But Dragon’s Dogma in all this?

Well Capcom preferred to wait a few more days to celebrate 10 years of the license. We obviously hoped for an announcement related to the license, and it did take place, since Dragon’s Dogma 2 was announced! Hideaki Itsuno, to whom we owe all the Devil May Cry, indeed announced that the sequel was in development on Unreal Engine. No image, no release date, no platform announced, but a logo and the formalization of the development.

A resurgence in popularity for Dark Arisen

By launching the development of Dragon’s Dogma 2, Capcom got it right, since as soon as the Capcom showcase outfit was announced, Dragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen began to climb the Steam charts! 2300, 2500, 3200, 4600 then 6100 and 6500 players connected simultaneously, such was the progress recorded by Steam DB between June 13th and 19th!

The numbers aren’t mind-blowing, but it’s rare to see a decade-old game come back so suddenly. There are of course exceptions to the image of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but these titles are not the norm. However, they reflect a genuine interest from playerswho have decided to discover the game or to relaunch it, and 6500 players is quite simply the highest total since February 2016.
