A community council is being held this Monday, April 11 at 6 p.m. multicultural room in Bagnols-sur-Cèze. Three public interest associations will each receive €5,000.

Not all elected officials had received the dematerialized mailings intended for them on time. The community council which was initially scheduled for April 4 had therefore been postponed to this Monday, April 11 at 6 p.m. multicultural room in Bagnols-sur-Cèze. The agenda for this marathon session comprises 47 points, including a deliberation concerning aid to Ukraine. The Agglo du Gard Gard Rhodanien will pay a grant of €15,000 at the rate of €5,000 for each of the following three organizations recognized as being of public utility, the Red Cross, the High Commissioner for Refugees (United Nations agency) and Doctors of the World non-governmental organization. This money is of course intended for aid for Ukraine.

The president of the agglomeration community Jean-Christian Rey estimates at just over 400 the number of refugees arriving from this country at war and who have been welcomed in the Gard. The Rhone side of the department therefore intends to do its part through this donation. In addition to financial aid, the Aggo du Gard rhodanien opens facilities for crèches and outdoor centers for children from hosted families. The municipalities take care of the schools. The schooling of young newcomers is ensured within the establishments of the communes of residence of the host families. “We are working on free transport cards to facilitate their integration into the territory” announces the president of the Agglo.

“Prefer cash donations”

On the other hand, there is still no collection of equipment, clothing or foodstuffs intended for transport to Ukraine. “We know that it creates a lot of frustration but we follow national instructions. There are a lot of people who want to do something. It’s a question of security. We are not at all sure that the convoys will arrive in Ukraine Hence the need to give priority to cash donations” explains Jean-Christian Rey.

On the other hand, the three associations subsidized by the Agglo have relays on site in Ukraine. If they need material they can buy it there. As for the actions initiated in the Rhone Gard, all people of good will are invited to contact the Red Cross, which may need, for Ukrainians already present in the territory, clothing and other basic necessities.

As a reminder, other organizations are also providing emergency assistance to Ukrainian refugees. This is the case in Bagnols of the reception center for asylum seekers (Cada), but also of the communal center for social action.

The agenda

The community council will also have to validate the 2022 tax rates. If they remain unchanged for the property tax on built (3.10%) and unbuilt (3.48%) properties, the property contribution for businesses will increase by 1 .84 points to stand at 28.27%. Community elected officials will discuss the rehabilitation, development and conversion project of the Chartreuse de Valbonne.
