Hardware news Oculus Quest 2: mixed reality, Messenger VR, multi-account … the additions of the update

The v35 update of the Oculus Quest 2 offers several major additions, some of which made it easier to stage yourself in a VR game when playing.

Just one month after the v34 update, Oculus Quest 2 welcomes a new update, v35. Return on the additions of this one.

Until then, for integrate yourself physically into a VR environment when you play, a green background was needed, editing or streaming software, and a good sense of perspective. Oculus intends to simplify this part of the staging, probably to encourage players to broadcast their games easily. Several games are already compatible with this feature: now all you need is a smartphone – either held by someone filming you or placed on a stable structure – to stage you in your favorite game. This feature will allow you to view, save and share videos of your games in your VR game (or VR application). The feature is available on the Oculus app, on iPhone XS or later, iOS 11.0 or later. The games supported so far are:

Messenger welcomes VR

the Messenger service is increasingly detached from Facebook. This will be all the more the case with this update. Messenger was already available on Oculus, since you could view the written messages and answer them directly from your headset when you are in-game. you will be able to make and answer audio and video calls from your headset easily when leaving your game. It is also possible that your recipient has a VR headset or not. If it has one, you can even “meet” you in a virtual space, in VR.

Cloud backups finally available

It seems like a trivial feature now, but the backups via the cloud were so far still not available in Oculus. Until then, for example, if you uninstalled a game from your Oculus Quest in order to make space on your hard drive, you lost all your progress. Now in-game saves and helmet settings will be saved in the cloud, allowing you to restore your data in the event of a reset, for example. This feature, which will be deployed gradually, is all the more useful when you take into account the arrival of multi-accounts.

Multi-account becomes standard

The feature was in beta, and very much anticipated. It is now possible to register multiple accounts in a single headset. You will be able share your games between accounts, but keep the settings clean and distinct from one account to another.
