Game news Diablo 4: an economic model in line with Diablo Immortal? Blizzard responds

Present yesterday at the Xbox Bethesda conference last night, Diablo IV brought many news around its development. New class, release period … In addition, Blizzard has also clarified things in the wake of the economic model of the fourth numbered episode of the license.

Diablo Immortal: unhappy players…

A little surprise at the Xbox Bethesda conference broadcast yesterday, Blizzard arrived with a few tricks up its sleeve. In addition to announcing a release date for Overwatch 2 and its transition to free play, the studio also talked about Diablo IV at length. A game expected by longtime fans who wonder about the economic model of the title, especially after their mixed reception on Diablo Immortal.

Indeed, press and public agree that the incentives to spend money are very (often too) numerous. Content creator Bellular News even made an interesting calculation and realized that you have to spend almost $110,000 to max out your character. There is therefore a colossal difference between those who pay for certain services of the game against those who try, somehow, not to spend their money. A gap large enough for part of the community to violently rail against Blizzard, bringing the user rating of Diablo Immortal iOS to 0.5/10 on metacritic. It’s even worse for the PC version, whose user rating dropped to 0.2/10.

Diablo IV: what economic model?

An economic model that should not be renewed by Blizzard for Diablo IV according to Adam Fletcher, the Global Community Lead from Blizzard for Diablo, Diablo Immortal and Heroes of the Storm. In response to an enthusiastic player following the trailer released during the Summer Game Fest 2022it states the following:

Diablo 4 is released for the price of a full video game developed solely for PC and console audiences. The content of the game is extensive and there will be tons of post-launch content for all players. Paid content will be reserved for optional cosmetic items and full expansions. More information to come soon!

Words more or less taken up by Rod Fergusson, the general manager of the Diablo franchise at Blizzard. As a reminder, Diablo IV is expected in 2023 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series. The title will incorporate local co-op, crossplay, and cross-progression.
