Game news Shadow Tactics: The excellent tactical infiltration game gets a new expansion!
In 2011, Dominik Abé and Johannes Roth, two lovers of the Commandos and Desperados license, founded Mimimi. Five years later, they released Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, an excellent tactical infiltration game, followed four years later by the no less excellent Desperados III. But it’s Shadow Tactics that interests us today, with the publication of a new expansion.
Sharpen your blades, and disappear into the shadows
Last March, Mimimi created a surprise by unveiling not a new game or a new expansion for Desperados III, but a stand-alone expansion for its previous tactical infiltration game. Entitled Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun – Aiko’s Choice, or Aiko’s Choice for short, this expansion is available since Monday on PC.
Sold $ 19.99 ($ 17.99 if you buy it before December 13), this extension takes us back to the Japan of the Edo era, putting us in command of Aiko and her group of assassins. Extremely well received, this extension does not need to have the base game, and allows you to launch three long missions and three interlude missions. Everything is playable in three difficulty levels, but note that the studio recommends, if possible, to have done some missions of the base game, in which Aiko appears.
Aiko’s Choice focuses on one of the main protagonists: Aiko, the kunoichi follower. She masters the art of camouflage and knows how to divert attention in her geisha costume. Persuaded to have left her old life behind her, Aiko will nevertheless have to face a new enemy straight out of her past. Helped by a group of assassins, she will go in search of her ghosts … to better understand the context.
If you’ve never played a game like this, you should know that lead a group of characters towards one or more objectives, by using their capacities to counter the rounds of the guards, to eliminate them, or even to avoid them. It requires a good coordination, caution, and lots of observation. The maps are large, the enemies are very numerous, dangerous, and there are many hiding places and raised areas, and the backgrounds can contain something to facilitate or complicate the task. Obviously, all of this takes place in real time.
