Game News Call of Duty Warzone: Anti-cheat completely disarms cheaters with this new feature

The Warzone developers have launched a new, rather radical anti-cheat feature: cheaters are disarmed in the middle of a game.

Ricochet, Call of Duty: Warzone’s anti-cheat program, uses various features to fight cheaters. The latest is effective to say the least: the software downright disarms potential cheaters.

Disarming functionality in every sense of the word

In a new post on the Call of Duty blog, the Warzone developers explain that they have implemented a new anti-cheat system. This system of disarmament is part of a larger program, which the developers call “Mitigations” (“mitigations”)which aims to reduce the number of acts of cheatingwhile leaving players in the servers to analyze their dataand thus be able to better respond to future other cheat systems.

Today, we’re sharing another mitigation technique from our toolkit: Disarm. As the name suggests, when cheaters are detected, we simply strip them of their weapons (including their fists).

We don’t expect many clips of this feature to be shared online, but we’ve seen it in action and cheater reactions are always invaluable.

In the video shared by Call of Duty, and relayed on social networks, we see a cheater loses both his weapon and his arms! Thus he cannot even use melee anymore and finds himself completely powerless against legitimate players. Thus, the function bears its name very well in English: “Disarm” disarms, but even makes cheaters lose their arms (“dis-arm”)!

“Mitigate”, in order to analyze

The developers go on to explain the purpose of these “mitigations” in the short and medium term. Thanks to the graph below, Call of Duty claims to be able to prove that cheating reduces overall over time.

Since launching our mitigations earlier this year, we’ve been keeping a close eye on player reports.

The goal of the mitigations is to keep cheaters in-game to analyze their data while reducing their ability to impact a legitimate player’s experience. The data above shows that as the mitigations have been activated, we are seeing a reduction in reports of cheaters – either because players are being swept up in waves of bans or because their bad behavior does not interfere with your legitimate pleasure (because we interrupt their toxic acts).

This is subject to the same ebb and flow mentioned earlier, as cheaters change tactics we see a slight spike but according to this data over time our mitigation systems and other anti-cheat initiatives can quickly come back on the right way so you can focus on your experience.

We have other mitigation measures that we will probably come back to in the future. Some are active now, some are in development. Beyond its mission to fight against foul play, we have a second, somewhat secret mission to annoy as many cheaters as possible.

Over 180,000 players banned since late April

The Call of Duty developers claim that since the last update on April 26, over 180,000 players have been banned for cheatingon Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Q – What do you do after these attenuations? What about bans?

While mitigations are certainly the most visible element of RICOCHET Anti-Cheat, these processes support the biggest deterrent against cheating: bans.

Team RICOCHET issues bans daily for several reasons, and often in large waves.

Since our previous update, we’ve issued over 180,000 additional bans on Warzone and Vanguard combined.

No doubt if cheaters start losing their weapons and arms as soon as they are spotted, they will want to leave on their own, more and more.
