news culture Thunderbolts: Marvel’s Suicide Squad is coming to the MCU!
It’s been three years since Avengers: Endgame hit theaters, and since then we haven’t seen the superhero band reunite. The next generation is simply not yet ready to follow in the footsteps of the giants that are or were Iron Man or even Captain America. Marvel Studios seems to have another idea in mind in the meantime: putting together a team of villains modeled after the Suicide Squad.
Marvel’s answer to DC
Marvel Studios will put together its own equivalent of DC’s Suicide Squad with the movie Thunderbolts. We don’t know much about the plot of the feature film at the moment, except that it will evolve arounda group of villains on a mission for the government. In the comics, the Thunderbolts were first led by Baron Zemo, but the members of the group have changed many times over time. For example, America Chavez, Hawkeye or the Punisher were part of it.
Some characters like Baron Zemo, Yelena Belova, Ghost, Taskmaster, the Abomination, US Agent, the Winter Soldier or General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross are currently being considered to appear in the film. Assembling such a team could well give the Avengers work in future films. The Avengers 5 movie could possibly pit these two enemy teams against each other.
Which team ?
The film is still in its development phase., but some information has already been released. Deadline magazine has learned that Jake Schreier (Robot & Frank) has signed on to direct Marvel’s yet-to-be-low-key new film. The writing of the screenplay was entrusted to Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok, Black Widow). As usual, production is handled by the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige.
In the same way that we don’t yet know which villains will make up the team, it is also unknown which actors will participate in the adventure. Assuming Marvel Studios wants to bring back villains seen in recent years, one can assume actors like Daniel Brühl or Florence Pugh will reprise their roles as Baron Zemo and Yelena Belova.
