Stranger Antarctic Things?
Last year, during a routine airborne survey of the glacial areas in Antarctica. NASA was able to capture some rather strange looking images revealing an impressively rectangular iceberg floating in the Weddell sea off the coast of Antarctica. Here is one of the tweets from their official twitter account posting about the iceberg. Dated back from October 2018.
From yesterday’s #IceBridge flight: A tabular iceberg can be seen on the right, floating among sea ice just off of the Larsen C ice shelf. The iceberg’s sharp angles and flat surface indicate that it probably recently calved from the ice shelf. pic.twitter.com/XhgTrf642Z— NASA ICE (@NASA_ICE) October 17, 2018
As with most icebergs, the part visible on the surface comprises just the 10 percent of its total mass — the rest is hidden beneath the surface. Very foreign lands are those in Antarctica, huh?
